From the fields and factories to hospitals and military bases, women stepped into vital roles that kept Britain going during its darkest hours. Join us at Eden Camp Modern History Museum as we celebrate their courage, determination, and resilience through our special summer holiday activities.
Women at War: Poo Clues Trail
Can You Crack the Secret Word?
Everyday from 18 July to 31 August
The Women’s Land Army worked tirelessly during the Second World War to keep Britain fed. From milking cows and caring for livestock to protecting crops from pests, Land Girls played a vital role in Britain’s war effort.
As you explore Eden Camp, hunt for the animal poo clues hidden around the museum. At each stop, identify which animal left the dropping and collect the letter provided. Gather all the letters to reveal the secret wartime word and collect a sweet treat from the shop for completing the trail!
Suitable for all ages and included with general admission.
Little Evacuees – Summer Holiday Workshop
FREE! Booking required as spaces are limited.
Monday to Friday 12pm to 1pm & 2pm to 3pm, Hut 12.
Step back into wartime Britain and experience life on the Home Front through hands-on activities designed to bring history to life.
Our Little Evacuees workshop gives children the chance to discover what life was really like for young people during the Second World War.
What your child will do:
✔ Make their own cardboard gas mask, just like children carried during the Blitz
✔ Learn about evacuation and what it meant to leave home for an unknown destination
✔ Explore wartime rationing and discover how families made do with limited supplies
✔ Meet the remarkable women who kept Britain running, including Land Girls, factory workers, nurses, and more
Every child will take home:
- Their handmade gas mask
- A wartime identity tag
- New knowledge and unforgettable memories from their journey into history

Cow Milking Experience
Select days from 11am
Join Connie from the Women’s Land Army and discover the important role women played in supporting Britain’s war effort. Learn about life on the Home Front, hear stories from wartime farms, and try your hand at milking on our model cow, as you experience a daily task that helped keep the country going during WWII.

Living History Weekend
August 29th and 30th
Step back in time at Eden Camp’s Living History Weekend, where reenactors bring the past to life around every corner. Meet medics, explore a Sherman Tank, try authentic wartime ration recipes, and groove to live music in the engine shed — there’s something for the whole family to enjoy.
Feeling adventurous? Dress up in 40s style and become part of the story yourself.
